lyrics
I've got my ear down to the trail you see my families in the back
We gotta make it to the desert where we'll get right back on track
The parade of months are screaming and it's hard to acknowledge
The economy's a wreck but I didn't go to college
I hope all the new beginners have some beginners luck
I would have made it for the millions but I'll settle for a buck
They're blinking all in unison onlookers pass on by
We'll clean up all the windows until all our tongues are dry
Whisper all your secrets, keep them out of public eye
Make sure to never mention the intentions in your mind
The landscape will grow sharper it's a view we should abolish
I'm burnt down to my fingertips our safety's been demolished
Call it how you see it and you play it like you want
Teach us all a lesson just by jumping to the front
It's hard to disappoint your parents if your parents aren't alive
Forget the sentimentals just be careful and survive
(Chorus)
Why don't you stay
Oh, honey don't
Start the second take
Honey don't
Playing in the rainy days
Oh, you surely won't
This must be just a phase
Oh, honey don't
(Second Verse)
In the hours shortly after all the lost were finally found
All the memories were captured and were buried in the ground
The endless possibilities made it more exciting
The liars had the upper hand cause nothing was in writing
The things we do together shouldn't matter all that much
It's just one more great example of a skill to never trust
When you plan a perfect day but nothing goes as planned
The light increased sometimes on the quietest command
(Third Verse)
I've got my ear down to the trail you see my families in the back
We gotta make it to the desert where we'll get right back on track
The parade of months are screaming and it's hard to acknowledge
The economy's a wreck but I didn't go to college
I hope all the new beginners have some beginners luck
I would have made it for the millions but I'll settle for a buck
They're blinking all in unison onlookers pass on by
We'll clean up the blood with the rest of our saliva
"keep it in the dark" feels like summer storm music: it swirls and comes in torrents but it cools your skin with burst of calm. i don't know how they balance the dichotomy so easily, but they do. the pitterpatter of accidentals in "fools"'s guitar line, the gentle unison vocals of "we collide", the churning sea of "see what happens"- it all melds into something as rousing as it is calming.
